I was trying to explain the importance of Search Engine Optimisation the other day to a friend and I can up with this analogy.

Put basically, search engine optimisation is the process of designing the pages on your website so that the Search Engines can find your site and rank it in the top 10 results for the keywords used.
Even today, websites are being created by web designers that do are not optimised for search engines. This basically means that these sites will be impossible to find unless you happen to search for their exact name.
